Permanent Makeup (PMU) is best described as cosmetic tattooing. The techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as "micropigmentation". The cosmetic implantation technique deposits coloured pigment into the upper layer of the skin. Permanent makeup procedures are performed using various devices, often similar to tattoo machines. The process includes a consultation, the implantation of pigment and at least one follow up treatment for the evaluation of healing and pigment colour. Permanent Makeup can benefit everyone - young and old. Whether you battle to apply or own makeup or simply want to wake up feeling more confident. PMU can look natural and go almost undetected. Speak to your Artist about the results you are wanting and let's get you feeling confident- everyday.
Why do I need Permanent Makeup?
Time-Saving: One of the primary reasons people choose permanent makeup is to save time on their daily beauty routines. Applying traditional makeup daily can be time-consuming, and permanent makeup offers a long-lasting solution, reducing the need for regular application.
Convenience: For individuals with busy lifestyles or those who frequently engage in activities like sports, swimming, or traveling, permanent makeup provides a convenient solution. It remains intact despite exposure to water, sweat, or other environmental factors.
Enhanced Features: Permanent makeup can enhance and define facial features, such as eyebrows, lips, and eyeliner, creating a polished and well-groomed appearance. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with sparse eyebrows, uneven lip color, or difficulty applying eyeliner evenly.
Medical Reasons: Some people turn to permanent makeup for medical reasons. For instance, individuals who have lost eyebrows or eyelashes due to medical treatments like chemotherapy may use permanent makeup to restore their appearance.
Allergies or Sensitivities: Individuals with allergies or sensitivities to traditional makeup products may choose permanent makeup as an alternative. This can be especially relevant for those with sensitive skin or conditions that make the use of regular cosmetics challenging.
Aging Concerns: As people age, the natural pigmentation of the skin may diminish, and features like eyebrows and lips can lose definition. Permanent makeup can address these concerns, providing a more youthful and vibrant look.
Scarring or Imperfections: Permanent makeup can be used to conceal scars, birthmarks, or other imperfections, offering a cosmetic solution to enhance overall appearance and boost self-confidence.
Symmetry Correction: Permanent makeup can help correct asymmetrical features, providing a more balanced and harmonious facial appearance. This is particularly relevant for eyebrows and eyeliner.
Is Permanent Makeup really permanent?
While the term "permanent" is used, the pigments will fade over time due to factors such as sun exposure, skin type, and lifestyle. Touch-up sessions are needed to maintain the desired look, usually required every 1 to 2 years.
How long does Permanent Makeup last?
The longevity of permanent makeup varies but generally lasts between 1 to 5 years. Factors influencing durability include the type of procedure, aftercare, and individual skin characteristics.
How safe is Permanent Makeup?
When performed by a trained and qualified professional in a sterile environment, permanent makeup is considered safe. However, like any cosmetic procedure, there are risks, and clients should follow proper precare and aftercare instructions.
What can I expect?
Each client's skin is different and unique. Deanne will use her extensive knowledge and skill set to create the ideal outcome for you. First we start with a virtual consultation, send through images of your brows, eyes or lips and together we can discuss the various treatment options for you. It is here that any of your questions can be answered and we will talk through the process.
At your appointment : Deanne will reassess the area that is being worked on and will create a pre-drawing in order to give you some idea of what the final outcome will look like. Once you are comfortable and happy with the pre-drawing, numbing cream is applied in order to make the experience more comfortable. Pain thresholds vary from person to person but most clients' are ultra relaxed throughout the treatment. Your appointment can take between 2 -3 hours depending on the area we are working on.
Are allergic reactions common?
Allergic reactions are rare but possible. It's crucial to discuss any allergies or sensitivities with the technician before the procedure. Patch tests may be conducted to check for potential reactions.
Is the process painful?
The level of pain experienced during permanent makeup procedures can vary from person to person, and it also depends on the specific procedure being performed. Here's an overview:
Microblading and Powder Brows: Microblading procedures involve creating small incisions in the skin and depositing pigment. This technique tends to be more pianful and is one of the reasons we at COSMEDICO opt for more advanced techniques suchas poder brow or nano stroke tecniques.
During your powder brow or nano stroke appointment discomfort is generally mild, some individuals may experience a sensation ranging from slight discomfort to a mild scratching feeling. Topical numbing creams are applied before and during the procedure to minimize discomfort. Most cleints arew very relaxed througout.
Eyeliner Tattoo: The sensation during an eyeliner tattoo procedure may vary. Clients often report feeling a tingling or slight burning sensation. Like with other procedures, a topical numbing agent is applied to the area to reduce discomfort.
Lip Tattoo and Lip Blush: Lip procedures involve some sensitivity, and individuals may experience slight discomfort. Numbing creams are applied before and throughout to alleviate any pain. The sensation is often described as a vibrating or stinging feeling.
It's important to note that pain tolerance varies from person to person, and what may be uncomfortable for one individual could be tolerable for another. Additionally, a skilled and experienced technician, like Deanne, can significantly contribute to minimizing discomfort during the procedure.
After the procedure, some redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area is common. However, these side effects are usually temporary and subside within a few days.
If someone is concerned about the pain associated with a permanent makeup procedure, they should discuss their apprehensions with Deanne beforehand.
Why do I need two appointments?
A 6 week follow up appointment is always necessary. This allows the artist to see your healed results and make any adjustments or refinements to your cosmetic tattoo. Your follow up appointment also gives you the opportunity to make any adjustments to colour, shape and detail.
What is the aftercare process? Ensure you understand your treatment fully - with lip blush appointments lip swelling can occur for 24/48 hours. You will be given thorough aftercare advice at your appointment as well as an aftercare ointment to apply. The first few days following your treatment are the most important. Be prepared to not exercise for 48hrs post treatment. No makeup should be worn on the treated area for 10 days post treatment. Be prepared to limit exposure to water on the treated area for 7 days post treatment.
Are PMU proceedures Permanent?
PMU procedures are considered permanent because pigment is tattooed into the upper reticular layer of the dermis and thus, cannot be washed off. However, as with any tattoo or pigment , fading can and does occur. An annual touch up is advised to maintain colour. The longevity of PMU varies from person to person depending on lifestyle - sun exposure, the colours used for the procedure and also topical products that are applied to the skin.
Do I need anything before my appointment?
A precare list will be sent through along with a client consultation form - be sure to read this information and let your Artist know if anything should get in the way of your treatment.
• One should avoid alcohol 24hrs before your appointment. • Limit Caffeine intake on the day of your appointment. • Avoid aspirin based medication 72 hours prior to your appointment. • Please note that you cannot receive treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or on anti-biotics.
What is the healing Process like?
Its important to remember that with any tattoo there is a healing process and strict aftercare needs to be followed in order to get great healed results. Your aftercare guide will be sent to you post appointment - this usually requires keeping the area dry for some time and keeping it clean - free of any makeup. Also remember that your brows/lips or eyeliner will go through a peeling phase. where the colour will shed from the tattoed area. Resulting in a lighter tone of colour. It is advisable to book your appointments where you have 7 days post treatment to allow your body to heal. You are still able to attend work/ daily activites as per normal. Ask about the downtime of your procedure if this concerns you.
How is this different to Microblading?
Microblading is the term still used by many people to describe cosmetic tattoo procedures used for the eyebrows. Microblading is a technique whereby in the past we used a manual blade and cut incisions into the skin, pushing pigment into the skin; creating the look of individual hair like strokes. We often see beautiful pictures showing results immediately after the Microblading procedure, however years later we see scarring on the skin and discoloration in the eyebrows. For this reason techniques have evolved and we now use an electric machine using two new techniques known as powder brows (shaded brows) or Nano strokes( hair strokes) These new techniques create far less trauma to the skin and ensure beautiful results for years to come, as opposed to outdated microblading techniques.
Why are Powder Brows better than Microblading?
Soft, Gradual Fade: Powder brows create a soft, gradual fade that mimics the look of traditional makeup, offering a more natural appearance compared to the more defined strokes of microblading.
Versatility in Shades: Powder brows allow for a more diverse range of shades and intensities, catering to a broader spectrum of skin tones and preferences. Microblading may have limitations in achieving varied tones.
Ideal for Oily Skin: Powder brows tend to be a superior choice for individuals with oily skin as they are less likely to blur or fade compared to microblading, which can be susceptible to oil-related pigment dispersion.
Reduced Discomfort: While pain tolerance varies, many clients find that the discomfort associated with powder brows is generally less than that of microblading due to the gentler application technique.
Longer Lasting Results: Powder brows often have longer-lasting results compared to microblading. The technique implants pigment more superficially, minimizing the risk of pigment migration over time.
Customizable Density: Powder brows offer more flexibility in achieving varying densities. Whether clients prefer a soft and subtle effect or a bolder, more defined look, powder brows can be customized accordingly.
Minimal Risk of Scarring: Powder brows involve a shallower penetration of the skin compared to microblading, reducing the risk of scarring and promoting a smoother healing process.
Faster Healing Time: The healing time for powder brows is typically quicker than microblading due to the less invasive nature of the technique, allowing clients to enjoy their enhanced brows sooner
